On the Dynamics of the U.S. Manufacturing Productivity Distribution

چکیده
In this paper a formal model of the productivity dynamics of manufacturing industries is developed with key features being the absence of optimal decisions and equilibrium coordination, heterogeneity of industries with respect to their innovative ability and cumulativeness of innovations together with the working of spillover effects. From that model the law of motion of the productivity distribution across the industries is derived and nonparametrically estimated using data for 140 three-digit U.S. manufacturing industries over the period 195896. The conclusion of a substantial role of persistence in the productivity development is further sharpened by the application of unit root and stationarity tests for panel data. The Effects of China's Growth in Manufacturing Sector in the U.S. Economy
T his paper investigates the gain of bilateral trade between China and U.S. in manufacturing sectors when both countries play a role in asymmetric (biased) growth of international trade. Our model includes a special case of Biased Growth Theory in international trade. We collected labor productivity, export and import data by using classification of manufacturing industries, for U.S...

Abstract The purpose of this article is to identify the effect of gender composition of the workforce on productivity in Iranian manufacturing industries. For this purpose, while using the data of four-digit ISIC codes of the comprehensive plan of statistics from manufacturies with more than ten employees of the Statistics Center, the productivity of manufacturing industries is evaluated....
متن کاملJenaer Schriften zur Wirtschaftswissenschaft Productivity Dynamics and Structural Change in the U.S. Manufacturing Sector
The paper investigates structural change among the four-digit (SIC) industries of the U.S. manufacturing sector during 1958-96 within a distribution dynamics framework. Focus is on the transition density of the Markov process that characterizes the value added shares of the industries. This transition density is estimated nonparametrically as well as by maximum likelihood, in which case the fun...

Ronald S. Jarmin is with the Center for Economic Studies, U.S. Bureau of the Census, Washington, D.C. Overview This paper presents preliminary results from an investigation of the effects of manufacturing extension on the productivity dynamics of client plants. Previous econometric studies of manufacturing extension had very little time series information. This limited what researchers could sa...
متن کاملImpact of information technology on productivity and efficiency in Iranian manufacturing industries
The aim of this paper is to assess the impact of information technology (IT) on the productivity and efficiency of manufacturing industries in Iran. So, the data will be collected from 23 Iranian manufacturing industries during “2002–2006” and the methods such as DEA and panel data used to study the subject. Results obtained by the above two methods represent that IT has a positive and statisti...
